Common questions
How do I calculate position size in forex? +
Risk Amount divided by (Stop Loss Pips multiplied by Pip Value) equals Position Size in lots. For example, if you risk $100 with a 20-pip stop on EUR/USD, where each pip is worth $10 per standard lot, your position size would be $100 / (20 x $10) = 0.50 lots.
What is pip value and how is it calculated? +
A pip is the smallest standard price move in forex. For USD-quoted pairs (like EUR/USD), pip value = 0.0001 x lot size in units. For a standard lot (100,000 units), that is $10 per pip. For USD-base pairs (like USD/JPY), you divide by the current exchange rate. JPY pairs use 0.01 as the pip size instead of 0.0001.
How do I calculate futures position size? +
Tick value multiplied by ticks at risk equals dollar risk per contract. Divide your total risk budget by that number to get the maximum number of contracts. For example, if ES has a tick value of $12.50 and your stop is 40 ticks away, each contract risks $500. With a $1,000 risk budget, you can trade 2 contracts.
Does TradeCalc work offline? +
